Tencel yarn has all the characteristics of a luxury fiber: the natural,
workable comfort of cotton; the fluid drape and color saturation of rayon; the
strength of a synthetic; and the luxurious hand and luster of silk - and at
a much better price - an 8 oz./1680 yd. cone for only $12!
In addition,
tencel is made in an
environmentally-friendly way from wood pulp from trees grown on special
tree farms right here in the U.S.A. where the trees are constantly
replanted.
Colors below were
chosen to complement the Heritage Yarns collection of
hand painted yarns and
painted warps.
The combination of
structure, color and sheen can cause striking iridescent affects as seen in
Kathy Looper's
handwoven scarf below. Analagous colors and colors that are almost
opposite on the
color wheel seem to work best.
Knitters, if you
would like to achieve the iridescent look in an easy way, you might want to
consider the
Spiral Nebula Shawl Knitting Kit. Complementary colors have been
put together for you to take out the guess-work. Or if you would like
a custom look, just let me know at
Margaret@heritageyarns.com and I will be happy to help you in achieving
the look you want.
Suggested weaving
sett for 8/2 tencel is 20 epi for plain weave and 24 for a simple twill.
If you are weaving a fancy twill such as an advancing/undulating twill or
weaving with 8 or more shafts, I suggest you sett at 30 epi. For more
tips on weaving with 8/2 tencel, see
Heritage Fiber News, Issue #4.
Combine any of the
mill dyed selections of 8/2 tencel below with
hand
painted tencel.
