An easy, affordable
first lace shawl for the beginning lace knitter and elegant with
hand painted yarn from Heritage Yarns.
This
shawl was featured in a knitalong in 2006 and the
Elegantly
Simple Triangular Shawl Knit Along
blog
is still up to help you along in the process.
The yarn in this kit, Cloud 9, is a super soft, cool 50%
cotton/50% rayon yarn with lots of drape and sheen. It has
the added benefit for knitters of a little stretch, making it
easier on the hands to knit. This yarn is ideal for you if
you want the stretch of wool, cool hand of cotton and sheen and
drape of rayon.
This
shawl is knit in one of those lovely laces based on the Shetland
feather and fan stitch. There is so much movement and
interest in the pattern that it may look more difficult to do than
it really is.
Starting
at the lower point of the shawl and increasing to as wide as you
want, it becomes a lovely fan-shaped neck scarf or shoulder wrap
with scalloped points at the upper edge. A very fine yarn is
recommended. Yardage required varies from 200 yards for a
neck scarf of 32" at the widest point to 1000 yards for a
larger wrap of 72". Size 5 U.S. (3.75 mm) needles are
recommended. Gauge = 6 stitches per inch over pattern
stitch.
Version
shown was knit with one skein of Cloud 9 in the Bird of
Paradise colorway which makes a nice "shawlette".
Yardage on the 8 oz. skein is 832. If you think you would
like a larger shawl, consider purchasing an extra skein. Or
you may like to knit a second shawlette for a friend.

kit includes:
