Checkerboard Shell - #43
Here's a shell that you can wear
alone with shorts on hot summer days or under a suit or casual jacket.
This hand knit piece makes a stylish alternative to a blouse.
The pattern is written for 2 gauges, 5 stitches/inch or 6
stitches/inch.

Top-Down Poncho - #62
This poncho has points and an opening
at the neck. The size you want is determined by how long you work
the shoulders, so this pattern can be for a child to a large adult.
Of course, yardage adjustments will have to be made for the various sizes.
If you want a turtle neck, work in
the round from the beginning, rib for 6-8" and keep in the round for
the rest of the pattern.
Use up scraps, add color, texture and
fringe. Work one poncho for warmth and others for fashion and fun.
Use whatever chunky yarn you like. The yarn label will tell you the
appropriate needle size. The chart shows how much yarn is needed for
each gauge. Gauges: 2, 2.4, 3, 3.5 and 4 sts = 1".

Striped Baroque Scarf - #51
Here is a must for your wardrobe of
accent pieces. This seed stitch scarf uses 6 (2) colors holding 2
strands in 32 (52) row sections. In between each solid section, you
will knit 2 colors held together. When you wear this scarf you can
have the darker or the lighter section in front, or you can just throw one
end over your shoulder. The small tassels make a great accent.
The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, 7 sts = 1", yarn held
double and options for a 6 color version, 2 color version or 1 color.
17 sts. x 32 rows = 4" x 4".

Any Gauge and Any Size Hat - #41
Here is a very easy hat by Ann
Norling, suitable for beginners. You can use any weight of yarn,
and it works for any size person. Knit a swatch with the size of
needle that the yarn label recommends. A
good way to use up your stash for gift giving.

Knitted Purses
- #31
This is a new pattern from
Ann Norling with lots of options for great little purses for every
occasion and a good way to use up leftover yarn. They take small
amounts of yarn and fit in with today's fashion.
This pattern
includes directions for all seven purses in different gauges, lining
instructions and ideas for finishing. Your choice of yarn will
make your purse work for everyday or out for the evening. Use your
left over yarn to make a purse to match a sweater you have knitted or
choose a yarn that will complement your outfit.
Since you are
going to make an accessory rather than a garment, you want the knitted
fabric more firm than a knitted garment. Recommendations are to
use a needle smaller than what the yarn recommends. For beginners,
she recommends #1 Little Purse. It is the smallest purse shown on
the right.
