Heritage Yarns Newsletter #42

July 7, 2007

Hi everyone,

Happy Independence Day a little late but the wish is the same and that is to enjoy and celebrate our freedoms here in the United States.

As a military family, our day was one of quiet reflection of many friends unable to be with their families and of family members who have served in the past.  God bless them for their sacrifices and God bless America.

There are a few things new and I wanted you to be among the first to know.  As always, I appreciate you shopping with me and if you have any questions about any Heritage Yarns products, please email me at Margaret@heritageyarns.com.  It is my pleasure to serve you.

Dyeing for your knitting and weaving pleasure,

Margaret <><

What's New

Smoky Places is one of the newer colorways at Heritage Yarns and is currently available in an 8/2 Tencel painted warp (new), Serenity cotton/rayon skeins and 8/2 Tencel skeins.

Black and smoky grays are enhanced by occasional glimpses of eggplant, blues, teal and mauve that you sometimes see in smoky places.  This is a colorway equally suited for a lady or man to wear to the office, to a black-tie affair or out on the town.

Smoky Places 8/2 Tencel Painted Warp

Hand painted 8/2 Tencel weaving warps - shown here in Smoky Places     Hand painted 8/2 Tencel weaving warps - shown here in Smoky Places woven by Kathy Looper.

Kathy Looper of San Francisco wove the classic scarf above for a male friend of hers and her husband.  The painted warp was in the Smoky Places colorway; black 8/2 tencel was the weft.  Kathy and I agree that almost any weft color would work.  Beautiful work, Kathy!

To see a larger view of Kathy's scarf, click on her scarf above and it will take you to the Painted Tencel Weaving Warps page.

Looking for an even faster project?  Pick up one of the patterns while you're there and your choice of pattern weft.  The options are yours with these warps.

Smoky Places Serenity Cotton/Rayon     Hand painted Smoky Places Serenity cotton/rayon - shown here in Smoky Places

Smoky Places is, once again, available in Serenity Serenity cotton/rayon is a fingering weight yarn with a delightful hand and drape and is suitable for warp, weft or knitting yarn.  It is especially a nice weight for shawls and cocoon Jackets.  Wraps per inch = 20; suggested weaving sett is 10-14 epi; knitting gauge is approximately 5 st./in. over stockinette on a size 4-6 U.S. needle.  Put-up is an 8 oz./700 yd. skein.

Smoky Places 8/2 Tencel     Hand painted 8/2 Tencel - shown here in Smoky Places

Currently available in 8/2 tencel skeins - the laceweight yarn with the drape of rayon and the hand of silk - but not the price!

Yardage is 1680 yds. on an 8 oz. skein or enough for most shawls.  Use as warp, weft or knitting yarn.  Wraps per inch are 32; suggested weaving sett of 20-24 epi unless you are weaving a fancy twill such as advancing twills or multi-shaft twills where floats are longer.  Plan on 30 epi for those.
