Lace Stole Knitting Patterns

Lace Stole Knitting Patterns from HeartStrings FiberArts wear well on a cool evening when you need just a little something around your shoulders.  Hanging Vines Stole can be knit as narrow as a scarf or wide enough for a sofa throw.

Hanging Vines Stole - #A26

I have knitted a few of these as scarves and found that the pattern is much easier than it looks.  The pattern is very adaptable in width and length.  Widths are from 10 to 52 inches so that you can use the same pattern for a neck scarf, medium width shoulder wrap, wider shawl or sofa throw.  Lengths are from 60 to 72 inches.

Any fine yarn in lace weight to fingering weight can be used.  Size 6 U.S. (4.0 mm) needles are suggested.  A 24" to 32" length circular needle is suggested for ease in working the wider styles, such as shawls and sofa throws.  Gauge:  average of 4-1/2 sts. and 6 rows per inch over pattern after blocking under tension.  Yardage required varies from 350 yards for a narrow neck scarf to 1800 yards for a sofa throw.  Lighter colorways such as Summer Haze and Sagebrush (shown on the left in Serenity cotton/rayon) show the pattern best.

Ivy Trellis Lace Stole - #H36

Ivy climbs along a trellis background of this generous lace stole.

For a romantic, unique shawl, knit in Atlantic Moonglow 8/2 tencel (doubled).

For a "day" garden, choose from one of the lighter colorways of Serenity or Cloud 9 such as Sagebrush.

Finished size 24" by 76".  1100 yds. fingering weight yarn.  Size 5 U.S./3.75 mm needles suggested or size to give blocked gauge of 17 stitches per 4 in. over main lace pattern.

Scotch Thistle Lace Stole - #H35

The complex appearance of this stole is deceiving as it is really very simple to knit!  The pattern is based on just ten stitches and fourteen rows.  And seven of the fourteen rows are "rest" rows - all purl!

The stole is knitted in two pieces, then joined in the middle by a easy method that does not require grafting so that the seam is nearly invisible.

Inspired by the Scotch thistle, the leaf and flower motifs in this stole grow from larger at the base to taller at the tips.  Although very simple, variation in the design will hold your interest as will a variegated yarn as shown.  Note the nice points on the ends shaped like the Scotch thistle.

Finished size:  15" x 60"

Yarn and needles:  550 yds. fingering weight yarn, size 6 U.S./4 mm needles suggested for blocked gauge of 5-1/2 sts./in. over stitch pattern.

Knit a very affordable hand painted shawl with yarns from Heritage Yarns.  Three of the yarns shown below are put up on 8 oz. skeins and one skein is ample for a shawl.  Knit a shawl and have yarn left over!
