Beaded Diamond Mosaic - #A13
Mix-and-match ensemble of hat, crew
socks and fingerless mittens to knit in two colors of DK weight yarn of
your choice and size 6/0 seed beads.
Although the color work might appear
involved, the slip-stitch color knitting is simple because you only need
to handle one yarn color at a time. The beads give an added depth of color
and look of complexity to an otherwise simple beaded knitting technique.
Hat is sized for Adult Small-Medium [Large-Extra
Large]. Size 5 and 7 U.S. (3.75 and 4.5 mm) needles suggested.
Crew Socks and Fingerless Mittens are
sized for Adult Small [Medium, Large]. Size 2 and 5 [6, 7] U.S. (2.75 and
3.75 [4, 4.5] mm) needles suggested.
Pictured models knitted in Heirloom
Easycare 8, #711 (for the lighter yarn) and #779 (for the darker yarn),
and Miyuki beads #6-1427 Silver-lined Violet.

Bella's
Beads Cloche - #KH02
This flapper-style hat was inspired
by the movie "Agatha" starring Vanessa Redgrave. Women in
the 20's and 30's wore these lovely cloche hats. A second
inspiration was a biography of Bella Abzug, a politician who did a lot for
women's issues. Bella was famous for always wearing a hat; hence Bella's
Beads.
The design has a beaded roll brim
followed by plain knitting, then a beaded band emphasized in purl
stitches. Two versions for the crown are given - one with beaded purl
circles (left), and the other with beaded garter spokes (right). For the
beaded areas, you will be manipulating two strands of yarn, one with and
one without beads. This is a simple way to introduce the beads as needed
into the knitting.
Adult small [medium, large] - finished
circumference 19-¾ [21, 22-½]" to fit head approximately 21 [22,
23]". Heavy worsted weight or UK 12-ply yarn - 105 [115, 125]
yards. 4-½ stitches/inch over stockinette on larger needles. Suggested
needle sizes U.S. 6 and 8, 40 g size 8/0 seed beads. Supplemental thread for
carrying the beads: 35 [40, 45] yards.
Written stitch instructions.

Scalloped
Juliet Cap - #KH01
Treat yourself, or someone else you
love, to a little bit of extravagance. Soft scallops frame the face
in this stylish cap knitted in a modified feather and fan lace
stitch. Choose a variegated yarn for zestful color interplay that is
enhanced by the wavy pattern. A nice alternate is to use a solid
color yarn to emphasize the lace. Medium adult finished
circumference 21" to fit head approximately 22". Adjust
size or snugness of fit by adjusting gauge/needles used. Laura
worked the model shown on the left in Heritage Yarns
Woven Cotton
