FAUX IKAT SCARVES AND SHAWL
WEAVING KITS
Create fabulous ikat effects
without the fuss and mess of first dyeing the yarn yourself.
The faux ikat technique requires a variegated yarn, hand dyed being
easier to match than commercially dyed.
Each kit
contains yarns as shown below, directions for the faux ikat technique plus weaving patterns.
Follow the easy plan to create two scarves like the one shown
on the left plus one scarf of mill dyed in a single color.
Warp once
for the two faux ikat scarves. For the second scarf to have a
different look, you might treadle the two scarves differently.
Other options for a totally different second scarf is to select an
additional tencel
weft.
The
kit for 3 scarves contains your choice of:
- One
8 oz./1680 yd. skein of hand painted 8/2 tencel
- One
8 oz./1680 yd. cone of mill dyed
8/2 tencel - Colors marked TOS are temporarily out of stock.
Or you may select the option of a faux ikat shawl with stripes of
mill dyed tencel. The model below is woven with Jewels are a Girl’s Best Friend 8/2
tencel as the warp and Eggplant 8/2 tencel as the weft.
The shawl kit consists of:
- Two 8
oz./1680 yd.
skeins of hand painted 8/2 tencel
- One
8 oz./1680 yd.
cone of mill dyed tencel
- Colors marked TOS are temporarily out of stock.
The faux ikat shawl shown on the left was woven by guild
member, Debbie Stringer. Her warp was What a Wonderful World 20%
silk/80% rayon from a skein (available in warps only now). However,
this technique is possible with any of the 8/2 tencel colorways below.
Debbie carefully arranged the color so that the colors shifted toward
the center in the shawl. Outstanding!
Bottom
left is Cheryl Dunworth's faux ikat silk/rayon shawl. Cheryl has
used this technique many times with beautiful results. Look for
more of her work to be featured here as colorways become available.
