Painted
Cotton Rayon
Weaving Warps by Heritage Yarns
Painted cotton and rayon weaving warps
by Heritage Yarns explode with color and the right touch for a shorter
suit jacket scarf or mobius.
There are two yarns in this warp:
- Premier 5/2 cotton - 100% 5/2
pre-mercerized pima cotton
- Fringe
Benefit 100% rayon chainette
Combining the two yarns in one warp gives the best of both worlds:
the rayon gives a nice drape, sheen and take-up of the color and the cotton
gives a nice hand and lightens the drape. Dye take-up is
dramatically different for each fiber, creating a depth of color
unequalled in a warp of all one fiber.
The warps are 3 yards long
and 168 ends. Recommended weaving sett is 18 for plain weave or 20 EPI for
twill. Width
in the reed: 8.5-9.4". This warp is for a shorter suit or
möbius scarf.
Due to variation in stretch of the two yarns, back to
front beaming is recommended. The stretch lends added drama
to the color variation in the finished scarf.
Complete
instructions, at no additional charge, include lashing on
to the breast beam for best tension, a pattern for a
four-shaft combination broken twill and directions for creating a möbius. What are the options?
-
You may
purchase painted warps and wefts separately.
-
The
pattern is included at no additional charge or you may design your
own.

Don't see
the weft color you would like to try shown with the warp? Select
any other on this page or from the
mill dyed yarns
selection.
I recommend
8/2 tencel as the
weft for this and almost everything as there are so many colors from
which to choose and It provides extra sheen and a
little more drape. Additionally, it is so affordable as yardage is
high at 1680 yds. per 8 oz. cone. Optionally, choose
5/2
perle cotton or
Jaggerspun Zephyr 2/18 silk/merino for a weft.
You might like to
paint your own
cotton/rayon warp.
Finished size of the scarf: approximately
7" - 8" wide X 45” - 55" long, depending on loom waste and
structure chosen, plus a 3” - 7" fringe on each end.
Equipment
needed:
four
to eight shaft loom, shuttle and bobbins.
Suggested
sett: 18 EPI
for plain weave, 20 EPI for twill
Experience
level:
Intermediate
to experienced
Note: even though experience level
is stated intermediate to experienced, I've been told by a beginning
weaver that she loves these warps. They are fast to beam and weave.

Atlantic Moonglow
It was a memorable, cool
evening with friends on Topsail Island, NC that inspired this colorway
and a few others you will see on this page. The rayon chainette in
the warp sparkles much like the water did that night.
|
|
| Blueberry Hill
A tone-on-tone colorway that will
go with so many blues and black. The glisten of tencel will add that
little bit of sparkle you see on blueberries. |

Day's End
This warp is just as the name
indicates with a midnight blue, eggplant, red orange and hint of gold as
the sun goes down. |

Magic Carpet Ride
Take a Magic Carpet Ride with this
colorway. Rich and traditional, the colorway was inspired by
Turkish carpets. Very traditional and straightforward, this would
make a very nice scarf tucked inside a suit jacket for the office. |

Rose Garden
This warp is reminiscent of a rose
garden. One can almost smell the fragrance! |

Sea Cruise This is named for all the beautiful
colors seen out in the deep sea - from blue green, teal, cobalt, deep sea
green and Moroccan blue. The scarf shows how the different dye
take-up in the two fibers gives a kaleidoscopic effect. |

| Topsail Island What a beautiful place is Topsail
Island, NC. The sea and sky colors are almost too brilliant to
capture. I hope this colorway will help you visualize just how
beautiful it is with the natural sand dunes, driftwood and beautiful
Atlantic Ocean. |
