Black and Gray in a Rainbow World

This colorway was created for those of you looking for a more neutral palette.  Need something for the office or a gentleman's scarf?  Pair a scarf made with this colorway with almost anything - basic black, brown, khaki, gray or taupe.

Subtle shifts in the black and gray areas of blues, greens and eggplant add interest and depth of texture and color.  Colors vary from silvery, cool grays to warm, golden browns.  Click pictures on the left to see a larger view.

Handwoven shawl in Black and Gray in a Rainbow World Serenity cotton/rayon by Deborah CannonShown on the left is a scarf woven by Deborah Cannon on a rigid heddle loom.  She wove a scarf using one skein of Serenity as warp and 3/2 black perle cotton as weft.  Stunning, isn't it?

Here's what Deborah has to say:

The warp was 8 feet long 12 inches wide.  I used black 3/2 perle cotton for the weft, Black and Gray in a Rainbow World (Serenity) for the warp.  I have a 10-dent reed on my heddle that is 31" wide.  The scarf is 11 inches wide (must have shrunk a little when I washed it?) and 6 feet long from fringe edge to fringe edge.  The fringe is 4 inches.

Thanks again for all your help.  You have no idea how much....  I am positive you have spared me months of confusion and frustration with your tips and advice.

Jewels are a Girl's Best Friend 8/2 Tencel

Temporarily out of stock

8/2 Tencel

Jewels are a Girl's Best Friend

It may not actually be diamonds that are a girl's best friend but emeralds, rubies, sapphires and amethysts.   Particularly for someone with a winter complexion - a large portion of the world.

Very flattering colorway next to the face and beautiful worn with black.

Tencel is a laceweight yarn with a wonderful drape and hand.  Great for knitting a lovely shawl with plenty of yardage on one skein for most shawls.  Suggested weaving sett is 20-24 epi.

Serenity is an all-around versatile yarn for knitting and weaving.  Knitting gauge is 5 stitches/inch on a size 4-6 U.S. needle.  Weaving sett is 10-14 epi and can be used for warp or weft.

Magic Carpet Ride

Magic Carpet Ride has been around for a while  and is reminiscent of rich, antique Turkish carpets.  Saturated tones of dark green, cobalt blue, plum and maroon.  Straightforward and traditional, it is suited for times when you would like a conservative look.

This colorway works equally well for office attire or a night out on the town, a gentleman's scarf or a lady's lace shawl.  The values in the colors are very close so that it works well in pattern weaving and lace knitting.

Looking for a complementary companion yarn?  Mill dyed 8/2 tencel in navy, black or eggplant will set off the colorway.

What a delight to stumble upon the site of Wovenflame who graciously granted permission to feature her shawl on my site.  It is the Feather and Fan Shawl by Eugen Beugler from A Gathering of Lace by Meg Swansen.  The beads in the edging (shown far right) are her own innovation.  The yarn is Majesty 8/2 tencel.  Beautiful job!  Be sure to visit Wovenflame to see her other beautiful creations.

Sagebrush

was designed with Spring and Autumn complexions in mind.  It is lovely alone or used with perle cotton in Topaz  as a complimentary color.  The Sagebrush Hanging Vines scarf below is another winning HeartStrings knitting pattern and Heritage Yarns hand painted Serenity.  Thanks and compliments go to Jackie E-S's friend who knitted the beautiful scarf and to Jackie for her easy-to-knit pattern and great picture.  See the Hanging Vines pattern, #A26 at Lace Stole Knitting Patterns.
