Heritage Yarns Newsletter #29

April 15, 2005

Hi everyone,

First, I would like to thank you for your response to the Sales Bin and, your patience and faithfulness while the website server has been up and down recently.  Hopefully, the problems they encountered have been rectified.

Hope you are enjoying spring as much as I am.  The spring green that I love so much is popping out on the trees against a brilliant blue sky.  I feel the outdoors calling me to come absorb the color!  And speaking of color from the outdoors...  the first of the hand dyed merino has come in and pictures are up.

The list below is just the beginning of new things to come.

All my best,
Margaret Pittman <><

Silk/Rayon Scarf Warps

This is the latest available in the silk/rayon yarn.  The warp is 180 ends, 6-1/2 meters long.  Yes, we thought it was 6 yards but found out the warping board is in meters.  It will make 2 very nice, long scarves approximately 10" wide or 2 shorter scarves and enough for a bag.  Plan now for Christmas as these are in limited supply and for only $55 for warp for 2 scarves!  Colorways available are: Atlantic Moonglow, Blue Bayou, Blueberry Hill, Magic Carpet Ride, Summer Haze and The Days of Wine and Roses.  They weave off quickly with mill dye 8/2 tencel.  Pictures are available at Painted Silk/Rayon Warps.  If you have any questions about them, you may email me at Margaret@heritageyarns.com.

8/2 Tencel Log Cabin Weaving Kit

Watch the magic happen as you build the skills of winding two ends together, weave with two shuttles and work with tencel.  The silky hand and sheen combined with the varied sized blocks of log cabin give this scarf an iridescent quality.  Enjoy the cool, silky hand without the expense of silk.  The kit contains a log cabin pattern for two scarves with finished size of approximately 9" X 66"   OR the option of a shawl sized approximately 23" X 66".  The addition of twisted fringe adds to the appeal of the scarves or shawl.  Another Christmas gift in the making at $30 for 2 scarves and never too early to start.  Select from the 17 color combinations shown or if you would like a custom combination, email me and I will be happy to put a kit together for you.  You may view the kit at Weaving Kits.

Knitting Patterns for Lace and More

If you love lace and have never knitted a HeartStrings pattern, you have missed a treat.  Jackie E-S is a master knitter and very detail-oriented.  She doesn't leave a stone unturned when it comes to clear, concise instructions and patterns that build skills.

I'm happy to complete the HeartStrings shawl collection with the All-Over Lace Faroese shawl.  Well, 'complete' may not be the final word as Jackie always has something new up her sleeve!

The Twist and Slant is another pattern that I have been considering for some time and what better time than now before hot weather sets in.  Jackie's
description is as follows:

An attractive modified sweetheart neckline is the focal point of this woman's summer knit top. The pattern uses easy slipped, twisted, and eyelet stitches to create a pleasing combination of slimming twisted slip stitch verticals and zestful slanting openwork lines.  Easy to knit sleeveless top in twisted, slipped, and eyelet stitches; slimming vertical lines; tabbed sweetheart neckline. Knitted circularly with no seams to sew.

Sounds like my next knitting project! (-:

These and more HeartStrings patterns may be purchased at Knitting Patterns.

Sock Patterns and Fingering Weight Merino

Yes, even more knitting patterns and in something I have wanted to offer for a long time, sock patterns!  You have a choice of 10 patterns (if you must choose (-:),  5 from HeartStrings and 5 from Hand Jive.  In addition, there are 10 selections of hand dyed, vegetable dyed merino.  No, I didn't dye these but they are wonderful.  Take a look for yourself and I think you will agree.  See the whole collection of sock patterns and fingering weight merino at Socks.

Bias Towards Lace Scarf Knitting Kit

This is a HeartStrings/Heritage combination that has been around for awhile but now, available in a kit.  I am dyeing the remaining of the novelty rayon in 325 yard skeins, just enough for the HeartStrings Bias towards Lace scarf.  The pattern is easy and a delight to knit with any yarn but think you will enjoy the heavy drape of the novelty rayon if you have not already knitted with it.  The kit is available for $20 in Blue Bayou, Magic Carpet Ride, Majesty and What a Wonderful World at Knitting Kits.

Next Issue - New Cotton/Rayon Promotion

A new cotton/rayon yarn is currently on *a* set of needles.  (Does anyone just have one project going? (-:)  The hand is wonderful.  It has just the right drape and gauge for a HeartStrings shawl or scarf or as warp for a shawl or a couple of scarves.  Fiber content is 50 % cotton/50% rayon, the best of both worlds:  rayon takes dye brilliantly and adds drape and cotton holds the shape and gives a wonderful hand while adding a contrast of matte color against the sheen of the rayon.  Yardage is high at 832 yds per 8 oz. skein.  There will be a special introductory price for newsletter subscribers for a limited time.  There is a limited amount of this yarn (about 100#).  So, get it while you can!
