Information
8/2 Tencel
Mill dyed 8/2 tencel is here in 8 oz. skeins and ready to ship. This
replaces the 10/2 that I have carried in the past. It has a beautiful
sheen and somewhat easier to warp than the 10/2 as selvages do not have to be
doubled and is a larger grist yarn. Colors include black, cobalt,
hunter green, mineral green, Pompeii red, dark teal, cocoa and shale. You
may view the new colors at Mill Dyed Yarns
or What's New.
The 8/2 natural should be here any day so that I can begin painting skeins. Look
for dyed stock soon at
Hand
Painted Yarns.
Silk/Rayon - 8 oz.
Colorways ready to ship in the popular silk/rayon are Blueberry Hill, Moonlight
Sonata, Plum Parfait, Spring at Rocky Springs and What a Wonderful
World. Look for faux ikat scarves/shawl options in the next issue.
Or, you may purchase separately at
Hand
Painted Yarns.

Occasionally, I feel a reminder is in order of how I "think" Overshot.
Four-shaft overshot consists of 4 blocks: A = 1 & 2; B = 2 & 3; C
= 3 & 4 and D = 4 & 1. The blocks are threaded sequentially, i.e.,
A, B, C, B, C, D, and share a common thread between sequential blocks.
Since looms vary from jack-style, counterbalance or countermarche, it is easier
for explanation purposes to work with a direct tie-up, i.e., 1 treadle to 1
shaft. Think of covering the blocks or weaving the blocks when weaving the
pattern rather than treadle numbers or treadle orders which really don't
mean anything if you don't know what they are tied to. A tabby shot of 1
& 3 and 2 & 4 alternate with pattern shots. And, yes, I weave
tabby with 2 feet!
This treadling, like the others, is on a Overshot threading. And I learned
this treadling from Barbara Miller.

One could spend quite a while on Summer and Winter and not get through
exploring!
I would like to encourage you to become a member of HGA. It was through
HGA's 1994 Teaching and Learning through Correspondence (TLC) that I learned so
much about 4 shaft overshot. Barbara Miller was my mentor for the study
and I learned so much from her. This and other studies such as the
Learning Exchanges (LX) are just a few of the benefits of a membership in HGA.
