New Colorways

Samples are finally finished and pictures are up on the site!

Red Hot Chile Pepper is a very warm colorway of reds, red oranges and a hint of sun-ripened gold.  Those of you who liked Tropical Fruit will love this. See Red Hot Chile Pepper at The Tone-on-Tone Collection.

Sea Cruise was named after the song by the same name (written by a Mississippian, by the way (-:).  Colors in this colorway are of the deep and include cobalt, dark green, teal blue and blue green. Cruise on over to America The Beautiful Collection to see the samples dyed on rayon chenille and Tropical Wave.

Old World Tapestry takes the place of the Tapestry colorway once featured at Old Favorites.  The colorway is a little more complex with added color.  Visit Old Favorites to see this new colorway.

You may see all of these new colorways at What's New.

Silk/Rayon in 8 oz. Size

The 25% silk/75% rayon that has been so popular in the 4 oz. size  is now available in 8 oz. hand dyed skeins for $26 or natural for $13.  You may place orders for any of the colorways in this yarn by emailing me at Margaret@heritageyarns.com or use PayPal to purchase undyed skeins.  Again, the supply will eventually run out and you will not want to miss this opportunity to weave or knit with this yarn.  The drape and hand are wonderful.  There are still a few 4 oz. skeins left in limited colors shown at Knitting Kits or Weaving Kits.  When the 4 oz. size is gone, there will be no more 4 oz. skeins.  These are priced at $12.50/skein.

Knitting Patterns for Bulky Yarns

Knitting something quickly is what many of us would like to do.  Along with some patterns you have been accustomed to seeing, I have added a few more.

I am always pleased to have more of Jackie E-S's  patterns.  The Scalloped Juliet Cap was jointly designed by Jackie E-S and Laura Andersson who both experienced losing a family member to cancer.  We have each been touched by it in some way and appreciate Jackie and Laura's sensitivity in designing a hat that will provide stylish comfort to cancer victims as well as be
fashionable for anyone.  The model shown at Knitting Patterns was knitted by Laura in Heritage Woven Cotton Chenille in the Summer Haze colorway.  The bulk skein may be purchased  for $27 in hand dyed or $13.50 in natural.  Pattern sold separately for $4.50.  Look for kits soon.

The Bold Diamonds Vest and the Chevrons and Ribs Sleeveless Cardigan by Jackie E-S are patterns that can be knit up quickly and yet have enough interest to hold the attention of the more experienced.  Recommended yarns are Southern Breeze or Woven Cotton Chenille.

Southern Breeze and Woven Cotton Chenille knit up at about 3-1/2 st./inch and may be purchased at The Hand Painted Yarns.
Patterns are sold separately at Knitting Patterns.

Woven Cotton Chenille also makes great wash cloths.  I have been told one can knit 10 or 12 wash cloths using one skein.  Gina Walters of Sunflower Soaps knitted the one shown at The Hand Painted Yarns.

Other options for a quick-to-knit item include the Soft Cables Mobius, Troika Wrap-around, or Spiral Nebula shawls, the 3-to-2 Any Gauge Sweater, all patterns from Jackie E-S.  And, don't forget the Loop-d-Loop that can be knit up quickly using Southern Breeze or use rayon chenille combined with Ombelle mohair shown below.

New Knitting Patterns from Ann Norling

Fur Ideas is a 3 in 1 pattern for use with eyelash yarns.  Options include a large triangular scarf, a belt/tie, and a pull-over-the-head style of collar.  I knitted the collar a few years ago in a commercial eyelash yarn.  I can just imagine the large scarf in Apart or "the pet" as we call it here in Mississippi.

The Scrap Vest pattern is here and a great way to clean up your knitting basket by using a few yards or skeins of leftover, odd dye lots, and "I don't know why I bought it" yarn.

The Any Gauge/Any Size Hat is suitable for beginners.  You may use any weight of yarn, and it works for any size person!

The Knitted Purses pattern contains great little knitted purses for every occasion.  They require small amounts of yarn and fit in with today's fashion.  The pattern includes directions for seven purses in different gauges, lining instructions and ideas for finishing.

For ideas in using these patterns and more visit Knitting Patterns.

Ombelle Mohair

Ombelle is new and what a delight it has been to knit in combination with Tropical Wave.  I'll keep you posted on my results with a vest design I am working on.  Meanwhile, you may have a design of your own.  The gauge is approximately 3-1/2-4 st./in. on a 10-1/2 (U.S.) needle.  The Bold Diamonds vest and Scalloped Juliet Cap are considerations for this yarn combo.

Optionally knit Ombelle with rayon chenille to prevent the worming so common to rayon chenille.  It will knit up beautifully in Jackie's Loop-D-Loop scarf.  These and more patterns at Knitting Patterns.

Ombelle colors available are blue green, eggplant, royal blue and orchid with new colors coming soon.  Ombelle may be purchased at Mill Dyed Yarns.

Skein of Diamonds Scarf

The pictures of the Skein of Diamonds Scarf is finally up as promised.  The diamonds are somewhat hidden as one might expect with a variegated yarn but the scarf has a nice heavy drape with the twill structure and high rayon content.  The pattern, free with purchase of the yarn, calls for one skein of cotton/rayon.  See available colors at The Hand Painted Yarns.  You may order the kit by PayPal at Weaving Kits.

Proportion Change/Tromp as Writ

Pattern and tabby

Follow the tromp as writ treadling at Issue #5 and weave pattern and tabby but weave 2 picks of tabby between pattern.

Ex:  Pattern/1-3, 2-4/ Pattern/1-3, 2-4

Shadow Fashion (not Shadow Weave) (learned from Barbara Miller)

Pattern and tabby

You may weave tromp as writ or rose fashion (Issue #8).  Use tabby for the pattern thread and the pattern thread for the tabby.

Pattern and tabby (2) (Mary Snyder)

Use 2 picks of tabby between each pattern pick in a finer yarn, one as the warp color, the other in a contrasting color; this should be a good contrast with pattern color.
