Heritage Yarns Newsletter #13
June 17, 2002
Hi Fiber Friends,
It has been a fast and furious spring here in Mississippi as we have been making
home improvements plus enclosing my weaving and yarn studio. Hopefully, I
will have it filled soon and ready for everyone to come take a peak! Look
for a note soon regarding the studio opening. If you are in the area, you
are welcome to come. And, if you can't make it then, just let me know ahead of time when you will be here and I will be sure to have refreshments
for you!
Dyeing has not slowed down during these improvements. There are many new
colorways, a new hand dyeable yarn and new commercial yarns. The studio
will be brimming over with new selections. Pictures are now up on the
website of the new items. As a reminder, you may order any of the Heritage
yarns in any of the colorways with the exception of Confetti and the silk
cap colorways. It is available in 4 colorways. Many are also ready
to ship. See details below. And, as always, if you have any
questions, please contact me at
Margaret@heritageyarns.com
or (601) 956-1478. I am always glad to hear from you.

New Studio
The inside of my weaving and yarn studio is finally finished with the exception
of hanging more of the yarns. Look for pictures soon. Thanks for
your patience during this time of juggling time and inventory. It is much
appreciated.
Update - Faux Ikat
I will be teaching a faux ikat workshop for the New Orleans Weavers Guild on
July 12 and 13. If you are interested in a workshop for your guild,
contact me at
Margaret@heritageyarns.com.
Work continues on the woven faux ikat scarf kits. Look for information
soon at Weaving Kits and
websites of others retailing Heritage yarns.
New Colorway Collection
The Romantic Collection is a small collection of three colorways that will grow
as time goes by. Hmm.. Will there be one named As Time Goes By?
Included in this collection are The Days of Wine and Roses, Moonlight Sonata and
Deep Purple. This collection began with The Days of Wine and Roses.
Marcy Petrini and I planned this colorway based on a request from her friend for
a black and burgundy scarf with a zip of red. The scarf was woven in rayon
chenille 1300 and was so beautiful that I
decided to name it and offer it in a new collection. The collection name
was suggested by retailer, Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer of HeartStrings FiberArts.
You see, I do listen to your suggestions. <g> You can view the new
collection at The Romantic Collection.
Watch for additions to this new collection.
New Colorway Pictures
As promised, most of the new colorway pictures are up and include River Bend at
Mississippi
Delta River Collection, Mountain Dusk at
America
the Beautiful Collection and Plum Parfait at
The
Tone on Tone Collection. Look for Wildwood Flower at
America
the Beautiful Collection soon.
New Yarn
Yes, there is another new yarn! This yarn has been named Tropical Wave for
its 100% cool rayon fiber and its highly wavy texture. It is available in
all of the colorways except for the Confetti and spinning cap colorways and may
be viewed at
The Hand Painted Yarns.
Colorways that are ready to ship are Plum Parfait and Deep Purple.
New Tencel Pictures
The pictures are finally up for the new tencel colors of Adobe, Acorn, Cobalt
and Silver at Mill Dyed Yarns. Like the
other colors of commercial tencel, these are offered in 8 oz. skeins. As a
reminder, these and all of the other Heritage yarns are available in a center
pull ball for a small fee. Let me know at the time your order if you would
prefer a ball or skein.
Shadow Fashion
Treadling Option
This is not to be confused with Shadow Weave but is a nice treadling option to
try with an overshot treadling. This is one that Barbara Miller, my
mentor, taught me during Teaching and Learning through Correspondence
(TLC), 1993-1994. Incidentally, TLC is a very good way to add to your
weaving education and is offered to HGA members only. If you are not an
HGA member or if you are a member and interested in participating in the
program, see details at their website at
http://www.weavespindye.org.
As an option, try Mary Snyder's suggestions for Shadow Fashion.
Shadow Fashion/Barbara Miller
Pattern and tabby
Weave tromp as writ or another treadling. Use tabby for the pattern thread
and pattern thread for the tabby.
Shadow Fashion/Mary Snyder
Pattern and tabby (2)
Use 2 picks of tabby between each pattern pick in a finer yarn, one as the warp
color, the other in a contrasting color; this should be a good contrast with
pattern color.
