New Colorway

Atlantic Moonglow is the first of what I hope to be of four new colorways. It was inspired by an evening on the beach with friends in North Carolina. And, like most of the colorways, may be dyed on all of the yarns except Confetti at The Hand Painted Yarns.  Pictures are up of the  colorway at America the Beautiful Collection.

Free Peaks and Valleys Scarf Pattern

Recently, on a trip out of town, I wanted something easy to knit in order that I might be able to knit and visit.  I recalled knitting Jackie E-S's Maple Leaf scarf pattern and how much I enjoyed knitting the border.  So, I adapted the border pattern to knit a nice scarf from the 52% cotton/48% rayon yarn.  It has such a nice hand and drape.  Jackie graciously wrote the pattern as a "freebie" as her gift to you at Free Knitting Patterns.  Enjoy!  And, thanks, Jackie. (Update:  now available in a color copy for a small price at Lace Scarf Knitting Patterns - Rectangular.)

Cascading Hearts Shawl

I am always pleased  to feature another one of master knitter, Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer's knitting patterns.  Cascading Hearts is a Faroese-style or butterfly-shaped shawl with the traditional center back panels, side panels, front band and fitted shoulders.  Beautiful multi-sized hearts cascade down the back panel and around the border.  Treat yourself, or someone special, to a shawl kit this Valentine's.  Kit consists of 2-8 oz. skeins of 52% cotton/48% rayon dyed in the Cranberry Punch colorway.  This yarn has a wonderful hand and nice, heavy drape.  The kit is priced at $60.  Check out  kit at Knitting Kits.

Knitted Ribbons

Another quick and easy carry-along knitting pattern from HeartStrings in kit form and just in time to wrap up your special someone's Valentine's Day gift.  The kit contains the pattern for 2 different knitted ribbons, Stairway to Heaven and Picot Loops, and a 4-oz. skein of the new metallic/cotton dyed in Cranberry Punch for only $25.  It is also available in the undyed for $15.  The kit is shown at Knitting Kits.

Woven Log Cabin Scarf Kits

The log cabin scarf kits have been very popular in the "take what's available" color range.  I am now offering these kits in 8 color combos.  The kit is a nice project for a beginner or an intermediate who wants a break from the planning stage.  Color combos available are dark turquoise/safari, deep turquoise/black, red hot/black, cocoa/safari, cobalt/wine, cobalt/silver cocoa/black and silver/black.  Treat yourself or a friend to one or more for only $15 each.  See the kits and a finished scarf in the deep turquoise/black combination at Weaving Kits.

New Eyelash Yarn Colors

Two popular colors are back in "The Pet!"  The denim/black combo and the teal/black combo are back along with a pretty pale pink/black combo.  This yarn has the hand of chinchilla and comes with a FREE pattern for a skinny triangular scarf.  The yarn/kit can be seen at What's New.  The black/white, beige/white and purple are still available at Mill Dyed Yarns.  The yarn with pattern is only $12.

New 10/2 Tencel Colors

New colors are in and, like the others, are being offered in 8 oz. skeins in order that you may have a little of all!  The new colors are emerald, violet, mauve and indigo.  Look for pictures soon at Mill Dyed Yarns.  The tencel skeins are priced at $16 each.

Sheep Towels

These are something new and are 100% Egyptian cotton and generously sized at 27-1/2" X 30" for only $12.  These will make great lap towels for spinning or for guest towels.  The towels are shown at What's New.

Echo/Tromp as Writ Treadling

There are 4 blocks in this 4-shaft overshot treadling:

Here is just an inkling of how it appears.  To show the entire treadling would require a large amount of room but am sure this will give you an idea of the elongation of the pattern.

Try the above in the Mary Ann Ostrander tromp as writ treadling posted above for your convenience or at Issue #5. This is also a good place to start if you are a newcomer joining us.  Yes, it is fun!  You will be surprised at how different it looks than the traditional tromp as writ treadling!  A very contemporary look can be obtained by using 10/2 Tencel in black or tussah silk, for example, as warp and tabby available at Mill Dyed Yarns and 5/2 perle cotton in 2 colors for pattern wefts.  Suggestions for complimentary pattern wefts are pictured with the log cabin weaving kits at Weaving Kits.  I hope that if you have any questions you will contact me at Margaret@heritageyarns.com.  Four-shaft overshot has been my passion for many years.
